Vegan Lifestyle | A Festive Gift Guide

giftguide2016title

For the past few years, I’ve spent my Christmases alternating between my hometown of London and my boyfriend’s family in Sweden. As much as I adore being in Sweden for Christmas – with real snow, plenty of home comforts and a ridiculous amount of food – there’s something very special to me about being at home for Christmas, no matter how lovably dysfunctional the festive time can prove to be in my family (love you all, really!…).

As an atheist, Christmas is mostly an opportunity for me to spend time with loved ones, indulge in yummy vegan food and watch my favourite festive films. While I do love giving and receiving gifts, I feel like the holiday period can be a time of great expense and waste, with pricey presents exchanged and a pressure to spend, spend, spend. This is something that I think we should be mindful of when we’re doing our Christmas shopping; wherever possible, I seek to buy reasonably priced gifts that I know will bring use and joy to the recipient.

Another important aspect of gift-giving for me, of course, is to ensure that the presents I’m choosing match up with my ethics. For me this means vegan, preferably UK-made, and as eco-friendly as possible. Sure, the people I’m buying for might not necessarily feel as strongly about those criteria as I do, but why not set a good example and put my money where my morals are, right?

So, with all that in mind, I’ve compiled a guide featuring some of my most lusted-after bits and pieces at the moment, which I think would make great gifts for your loved ones. I’ve included a mix of books, cosmetics and home comforts which would work for any gender or personality, and range in price from affordable to higher-end. You can check out last year’s gift guide too for more of the same ideas!

What do you think of these presents? Have you made a start on your Christmas shopping yet or are you taking a different approach to gifts this year? Let me know in the comments!

  1. This is an amazing gift guide, thank you :’) I’ve bought my dad a present for Christmas, a Bing Crosby Christmas Songs vinyl for less than £1 in a charity shop and I know he’ll love it! We’re having to be a bit cheap this Christmas, same as every Christmas actually lol, ‘cos we’re saving to move into our own flat. I always buy similar shiz for my family though, candles, body lotion lol. Might try buy some cheap individual things from etsy this year! If I get round to it in time…
