Vegan Skincare | Ooh! Organic Baobab Rejuvenating Face Oil Review

I used to be such a big skeptic when it came to facial oils. Even when they rose in popularity, I was still convinced they’d leave me covered in spots upon merely touching the surface of my skin. So when I received one to try in Love Lula’s September Beauty Box*, I was intrigued – if a little cautious – to see how I got along with it.

As far as I know, I have dry/normal skin. I experience some patches of dryness on my cheeks, and have a cluster of lovely hormonal spots on my chin which have graced me for as long as I can remember. I’m not the best at maintaining a daily cleansing routine (although I am trying!) but no matter what, I always moisturise my face, morning and evening.

So where does facial oil fit into that routine? At first, I’ll admit that I was pretty clueless about how and when to apply it. But in reality, it can be used however you want it to be! Under makeup, only on certain areas, day or night – it’s an ointment of many uses, and has proved an unlikely, but welcome, addition to my routine.

I’d seen Oils of Heaven (Ooh! for short) pop up here and there around the blogosphere for a while, and was excited to receive their Organic Baobab Rejuvenating Face Oil* to try for myself. Baobab has long been touted as a sort of super ingredient in the vegan/healthy eating world – being rich in non-animal derived Omega, I was certainly interested in seeing what effect it could have on my skin.

After showering, I cleanse my skin and apply my under-eye moisturiser, before using the elegant dropper to place 4 small dots of oil on my face – one on each cheek, one on the nose or chin and another on the forehead. The instructions do suggest 2-3 drops but I have been enjoying the feeling of my face being deeply moisturised these chillier mornings. Sometimes, I’ll even moisturise with my face cream as normal before adding a few drops, for an extra boost of moisture – this probably isn’t recommended if your skin is oily or prone to product build-up breakouts, but I find mine thirsty for as much relief from dryness as it can get at the moment.

The bottle cites that the Rejuvenating Face Oil can be used underneath makeup as a base, and I’ve been having a lot of success with this. I still apply primer before my foundation, but I am finding that the added oil and moisture balances out the drying effect of the foundation, which tends to cake a little as the day wears on. I’ve noticed that my makeup stays in place for longer, and looks less dried out around the chin, nose and cheek areas by the end of the day.

Ooh! claim that their facial oil is absorbed quickly and without clogging the skin’s pores, a main concern of mine. I’m happy to report that, after around a month of regular use, I am experiencing no adverse effects in terms of blocked pores or spots in unexpected places. Yay! Although I can’t say I’ve noticed a huge positive effect in terms of the health of my skin, this product has been a pleasure to use, and has provided relief from the drying impact that the change in temperature has had.

As always, it feels great to be using products from brands whose ethics match up with my own – Ooh! manufacture their oils in the UK, and focus on fair trading of oils in their bid to help local suppliers maintain their livelihoods. There are many trends in the cosmetics industry which we buy into, often without considering the impact our consumption can have on the communities these products are sourced from, not to mention the environment and the animals that are often used to ensure their safety. When a brand comes along which offers an alternative to that suffering, I just at the chance to support them.

Lastly, I wanted to mention that Love Lula’s Beauty Box is a brilliant option to consider if you’re wanting to branch out into trying organic and natural skincare and beauty brands. A monthly subscription costs £12.50, with the Ooh! facial oil on its own priced at £19! They also offer 3 month and 1 year subscriptions, along with international options. Worth considering as a gift for the beauty junkie in your life…

Have you tried any of Oils of Heaven’s products?

*I was sent this product to review, and have given nothing but my honest opinion!
