It may sound clichéd but I can’t quite believe that the festive break has been and gone. It seemed like just yesterday I was getting ready for a week away, staying with my boyfriend’s family in his home country of Sweden. Now, here I am, mentally preparing to start working again tomorrow. Très lame. I mustn’t complain too much, though. I had a wonderful winter break and I hope you all did, too!

For anyone who hasn’t been to Scandinavia – particularly, to the rural areas – I thoroughly recommend it. I can only speak of my experience in Sweden as I haven’t visited the other Nordic countries yet, but it truly does boast some stunning scenery.
I took my Nikon D3300 along for the ride, and took a few snaps which I thought I’d share here. They are, like I am, very amateur, so don’t judge me too harshly! Winter in Northern Sweden usually means snow, though the unseasonably warm weather (-10C most days, practically sweltering!) meant we only had one day of flurried, fleeting snowfall. Daylight is also short lived, with the sun hanging low in the sky, replaced by the moon around 2.30pm.

Not only did Sweden provide a wealth of photo opportunities, it also came up trumps with vegan goods. I was overjoyed to see that the local supermarkets had an excellent amount of choice for non-meat eaters. This cheese by adorable veggie brand Astrid och Aporna was just delicious – I need to get hold of it in the UK somehow! We also had a bounty of vegan sausages, “meat” balls and Oatly treats. I didn’t feel like I missed out on anything. In fact, I may have turned into an open-faced polarbröd sandwich topped with vegan cheese and pizza salad. Who really knows?
I was lucky enough to receive some very thoughtful and wonderful gifts from my loved ones, all conscious of my change in lifestyle. There were lots of LUSH goodies from my sister, including the Lust solid perfume and my very first fresh face mask. My mum got us the Easy Vegan cookbook and a huge slab from Hotel Chocolat. And, after some oh-so-subtle hints, Stefan gave me the long-desired Pacifica roll-on perfume in Island Vanilla.

After the break in routine brought on by the festive period, I must say that I am mostly ready for the fresh start feeling that the new year beckons. I am ready to get back into writing, keeping to my schedule and writing for at least 15 minutes a day. I am ready to get the flat clean, purging any signs of Christmas for the next 12 months. I may even be ready to start planning a few trips away, because these pasty limbs need some vitamin D!
In terms of the blog, I have a couple of exciting things coming up, along with lots of ideas and plans for posts. Whether you’re a long-time reader or just pop in occasionally, thank you SO much for your support over the last year, and I hope you stick with me in the 2016!
