Cruelty-free Nail Care | My Collection

I am probably not in the best position to write this post right now. As I look down at my fingers typing away on the keyboard, I can tell you that my nails have not been properly taken care of for a while now. The cuticles are all wonky and overgrown, the tips have been hastily clipped before leaving for work in the morning, and they certainly don’t have a shiny, colourful polish on them.

It’s fair to say it’s high time for a little bit of nail love.

Since going cruelty-free, I’ve been pleased to find that a number of brands offer animal-friendly and vegan nail polishes. Some (the wonderful Barry M, for example) I had already been using, and I’ve tried out products I might not have thought to otherwise. Shout out to Kelly for her amazing Manicure Monday posts which provide endless inspiration!

I thought I’d share my cruelty-free nail polish collection with you, and talk a little about some recent discoveries. If you have any recommendations for me, please leave them in the comments section!

Superdrug is my first port of call on the high street for beauty. As a cruelty-free consumer it really is a treasure trove of affordability and accessibility. Their own brand is ideal for basics, so I headed straight there to pick up a new base coat (I chose the 3 in 1 Base Coat, Ridge Filler and Growth Enhancer). I’m also a long time user of their Nourishing Nail Polish Remover – while I find you do need to use a few cotton pads of this, it gets the job done.

If you’re pretty hardcore in your nail care, Superdrug also sell a range of manicure items, including nail soaking trays and the Conditioning Cuticle Oil Pen with Vitamin E, the latter of which is a favourite of mine, which I simply won’t do my nails without using. It’s not listed on the website, but this GOSH alternative caught my eye instead, so I might give that a try once the Superdrug one runs out.

You can check out Superdrug’s nail care offering here.

What would I do without this brand? With such a wide range of colours and finishes, I don’t think I will ever run out of choices for my nails.

My recent favourites are from the Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint range – I have been loving Prickly Pear (strangely listed as Lilac on Superdrug’s website) and Fondant, both lovely pastel shades. I’ve also snagged Chai – a pretty, grey shade which I am really looking forward to trying out. I like my nails to match the British summer weather, so…

Lastly, I’ve been loving the Matte Nail Paint Top Coat – it instantly mattifies your nails and dries in seconds! It has to be used to be believed.

This brand only recently came onto my radar, when I discovered that all but one of their nail ranges are vegan! I hastily headed for their stand in Superdrug and picked up Turquoise Sea and Malibu Pink from their Polish for Tans offering, as well as Pear Purple from Diamond Luxe.

I can confirm that Turquoise Sea is as vibrant and lovely as it sounds after two coats. Pear Purple has a lovely gold shimmer to it, so I can’t wait to see how that looks on.
