Oh, makeup brushes. You’re ever so pretty, and – for many of us – an essential part of our beauty routines. We dab, daub, blot and blend myriad liquids and powders over our faces with your bristles. We wash you far less often than we should, but you still hang around.
I haven’t always used makeup brushes to apply makeup. I went through a phase of swiping foundation onto my face with my fingers, then disposable sponges. Finally, I realised that brushes were my preferred technique, but I struggled to find any that I liked that were both good quality and cruelty-free.
I wish I could remember how I heard about Nanshy, producers of 100% cruelty-free and Vegan makeup tools. Presumably, I stumbled upon them during a scroll through Twitter, but I can’t be sure. As my birthday was fast approaching, I decided to treat myself to the Gobsmack Glamorous Onyx Black Face Makeup Brush Set (£34.95). The brush set includes:
- Flawless Foundation
- Buffed Base
- Blush & Bronze
- Conceal Perfector
- Angled Airbrush
For my daily makeup (more often than not applied on the busy Central line to work!) I use the Flawless Foundation, Conceal Perfector and Blush & Bronze brushes. In truth, I’m not even sure how to make use of Buffed Base and Angled Airbrush, but the Nanshy website offers some tips to help you along.
I adore the Flawless Foundation brush. Its flat head is ideal for buffing liquid foundation into the skin; I normally use a mix of Illamasqua’s Skin Base and GOSH’s BB Cream, and this brush blends them together beautifully.
Initially, I was disappointed by the Conceal Perfector brush. For the first few weeks or so, it was shedding constantly and was almost impossible to use for that reason. I expect makeup brushes to shed, but as the packaging specifically claims that their brushes won’t do this, I felt a little let down. I’m happy to say though that, somehow, the shedding has now almost completely stopped, and I now use this brush daily to apply my Illamasqua concealer. Yay!
Lastly, the Blush & Bronze brush is a great all-rounder for applying bronzer in the warmer months as well as blush. It works wonderfully at blending my Illamasqua cream blush to a subtle glow.
All in all, I would recommend this brush set as a reasonably priced and good quality collection. Nanshy is a brand with a genuine investment in cruelty-free beauty, as their websites is very transparent and promoting of their status as cruelty-free certified.
Have you tried these, or any other Vegan and cruelty-free brushes?
