Cruelty-free Lipstick | Milani and KISS Cosmetics

lipsticksIt is wholly possible that, during a slow afternoon at work a few weeks ago, I received an email from Beauty Crowd advertising a flash sale on lipsticks in celebration of international lipstick day (yes, there is such a thing). It’s also quite possible that I checked out the flash sale and ended up ordering not one or two but four lipsticks.

In fact, it’s more than just possible, it happened, because lo and behold three days later, a box of cruelty-free lippies was waiting for me when I got home. And I couldn’t wait to try them out.

I’ve not long been into wearing lipstick. In the past, I found it to be a bit of a faff and had no idea which colours would suit me, let alone any confidence to experiment. More recently, though, I’ve found that a good quality, animal friendly lipstick makes a really fun addition to my usual makeup look.

And so I found myself getting a little carried away that fateful afternoon. Here’s what I thought of my purchases:

MILANI | Colour Statement Lipstick in Nude Creme and Uptown Mauve (£5.00 each)

Nude Creme

I have been wanting a nice nude lipstick for a while – preferably one that doesn’t make me look like a scene kid circa 2004. Sadly, this one isn’t it. While the colour of the swatch did appeal to me, it just doesn’t look so good on, and tends to flake off and fall into the lines on my lips more than I would like.

Uptown Mauve

Contrastingly, I really like this shade – a very pretty purpley pink, which quite closely resembles my beloved Venom by Urban Decay. The consistency is better than the nude, and it lasts well, fading nicely. I wore this lipstick recently on a day out at the Ealing Jazz Festival, drank beer all day, and only had to top it up once.

I would buy more lipsticks from Milani, though perhaps in darker shades only. They also smell/taste of watermelon, which is nice!

NB – The above two lipsticks are currently sold out but you can browse the Milani range here.

KISS COSMETICS | KISStick in Frisky Fuchsia and First Kiss (£7.00 each)

Frisky Fuchsia

This lipstick reminds me of one of my faves, GOSH’s Yours Forever. It’s a berry pink, almost red, and stays ever so well. It goes on really smoothly and feels rich and moisturising. I’ve worn it a few times, most recently during a(nother) day of drinking at Hammersmith’s riverside pubs, and only had to top it up once, like the mauve Milani. It’s a firm favourite!

First Kiss

I really should, and could, have stopped at three lipsticks, but I plumped for this wild card for some reason. I think the problem with this one is the shade – it’s a sickly, Barbie pink, which just does not suit me at all. It doesn’t go on as nicely as the others, and ends up looking sloppy and tacky. It’s a no from me.

Again, I would buy from KISS Cosmetics again, but only the darker, richer shades.

I’m really looking forward to getting even more wear out of these lipsticks as we approach Autumn, as I think they are great shades for all seasons. Have you tried anything from Milani or KISS Cosmetics? If you have any recommendations, let me know in the comments!
